Three residue samples were characterized by energy dispersive x-ray microanalysis (EDX) and Fourier transform infrared microspectroscopy (FTIRM). The residue samples were spectroscopically & elementally similar and consisted primarily of an organic material with various levels of silica, titanium, and iron. The organic material in the residue samples was identified as polyurethane thermoplastic. The elemental content of a water sample submitted along with the residues was assayed by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and found to contain measurable levels of Na, Al, K, P, S, Si, and Sn.
